Crewing is our committed service which supplies well trained and highly motivated sea staff to our clients. The logistical support of STANDARD is its extensive pool of sea-going experience and expertise which is invaluable - particularly at a time of worsening manpower supply. Nevertheless, with the highly competitiveness we continuously expect to our seafarers and staff we recognize that this resource must be sustainable.
For this reason, STANDARD recruits seafarers via its own office according to company policies and procedures set out through ISO 9001:2000 QMS by STANDARD PO 7.5.1. specific procedure and recent implemented protocols of MLC 2006. Those include stringent checks that verify the employment history, certification and medical records of all applicants, multiple checks with background companies.
The value of the crew pool is enhanced on a continuous basis by way of mandatory and non-mandatory training that is managed by the company’s dedicated training organization. It is therefore understandable that all our staff is completely covered STCW95 at all times.
Crew retention is of course another key component of sustainability. STANDARD has been able to maintain a retention level of over 80%. This high retention rate is driven by planned career development paths which are mapped out for the individual crew members: paths which include opportunities for promotion within our partner managed fleet. A `preferred employer´ initiative focuses on crew welfare issues is also an important way of ensuring high retention.
